Jane Hopkins MBE
Since founding MumsClub in 2007 she has developed a much needed support network, along with events and initiatives that actively work to support all businesses started by women who strive to juggle family life with a growing business.
As a single mum looking for an income she originally searched the internet looking for a business she could start for herself. Realising a lack of support she retrained in web design that gave her the tools create what she was looking for in the belief that if it helped her, it would help others like her. 5 years and 5,000 members later her work was was recognised when she was awarded MBE for Services to Entrepreneurship in the 2012 New Year Honours.
In 2008 she was chosen as Local Business of the Year by Theo Paphitis, awards to follow included Best online business 2009, Remote Worker of the Year 2010.
Jane’s rise to success has been typical of many women who have found themselves in a position of needing an income. The initiatives she has developed have been borne of her own needs; simply to network with like minded people, to share positive experiences with each other, and to find low cost ways to promote a small home grown business:
The website is where it all started and is still the centre of the MumsClub universe; home to the community forum, where businesss guides and inspirational articles are posted, role models are created and women network with eachother 24/7. There are several annual initiatives including The Business Mum Awards, The Top 100 list of mums in business, and National Business Mum Week held annually in October providing an opportunity for local businesses to create regional events to highlight the work and success of mums in business.
